We’ve reached the border, Ulla… ! The border to Costa Rica… it’s noon… !

Wake up, Ulla, it’s over, you know it’s 5… 5 p.m…. so we’ve spent 5 hours..

Stop, XL, you’re kidding…

No, but here our companions didn’t pay.. financial compensations…(bakchich)…

Ah ! Yet, with our car, our mobile home, our trailer, our two companions plus you and me….

You know, XL, too much administration kills the administration… !

I know, Ulla, you already explained to me why these countries don’t progress : everything is heavy, long, difficult…

On the other hand, the small Switzerland of Central America is really the first country as clean as that and they are gifted as there aren’t any garbage bins in the streets, nor large rubbish dumpster bins ; you find garbage trucks when you don’t expect them and the people come to drop their garbage off by themselves… do you realize… ?

You know, XL, this small country of 51 thousand 100 square kilometers holds 272,000 inhabitants, that’s 84 inhabitants per square kilometer and you know what, there are 30 per cent of the country set up as a protected area or nature preserve ; that’s really tremendous for ecology. It’s also full of hills and vales.

Oh, Rain’s so tiring… ! I’m slipping.. yes, but it’s only during six months of the year… as of the month of May/June : then it rains heavily every day….

But, XL, why do you think this country is so lush ? And that everything grows here… pineapple, coffee, palm trees (for their hearts), and all sorts of fruits and vegetables… That’s natural life… !

Yes, Ulla, but thank goodness our Gallic makes his own bread himself as the quality and choice of these are scarce here… they should learn to cook something else than « gallo pinto » which is the country’s national breakfast.. rice and red beans, eggs, cheese and sausages and the ceviche which is fish marinated in lime with cilantro (fresh coriander)… we put coconut milk into it just like they do in Tahiti…mmm… it’s so good…

Stop it, XL, you’re too greedy, you know, many tourists come to appreciate Costa Rica’s ecological outlook regarding birds, butterflies, monkeys, etc…

And you know, XL, the Gallic’s mother has been living in this country for the past 15 years, she left Saint Martin and France a long time ago so she has friends for you… they’re ugly you’d think they were rats…

Oh, Yes, you’re right, and on top of that they don’t want to play, come on, Ulla, please bark, so they stop yelping for nothing… it’s so annoying…

It’s true that Nature is beautiful here, but then the state of the roads remains to be improved… but what are the politicians of this country doing ?... Moreover most of the poorer people look a lot like peasants from the Auvergne province of France, very « boorish », but apparently the new generations are well educated in the classrooms it seems to enable this country to evolve, and it needs to… which in the past was left on the wayside by the conquistadors… as the Spaniards did not find anything interesting so they didn’t settle and that’s the reason why there are no beautiful buildings or beautiful church as there are in Mexico for example…

OK, Ulla, I want to go and see the Arenal volcano which, it seems, is still active…

No, no, I’m staying at my grandmother’s place to drink the « nacional cerveza » (national beer) The Imperial… !

You’re crazy, seeing your size and the bottle of beer… !

After that, I’ll go and sleep as you’re doing..

My Spanish translator (photograph below ; he’s at the back, to the right, with his glasses… but not at their place as their parrot isn’t very pleasant…

XL, what did you buy this time ??

A bar of chocolate that I paid 500 colons, that equals one dollar, that’s all… !

OK, kidding aside, you who are reading us, if you love nature, gum boots, farm and wild animals, tilapia (fishery bred fish used to make the famous ceviche) and going horseriding nearly everywhere, well, here’s the country you need to know about, Costa Rica.
